Freelancers Beware of Receiving Payments via Credit Card through PayPal

Posted: Friday, February 22, 2008 | | 3 comments
I recently had an experience with a client which I think should serve as a warning for other freelancers. This one caught me by surprise, I had no idea that this could happen to me, and if I did, I would have protected myself better.

I decided to contribute my story to freelance switch as I'm sure that there other freelancers out there accepting payments through Paypal unaware that they are not covered and what will actually happen if a client disputes a transaction.

» You can read my story here at freelance switch.

Update: The story has also been kindly translated into portuguese, thanks to fique-rico.com.

Hi cara, just clicking on your link to your paypal story sends me to this link:

http://freelanceswitch.com/the-business-of-freelancing/freelancers-beware-of-receiving-payments-via-credit-card-through-paypal/%3Cbr%20/%3E

There appears to be something funny going on and its adding extra tags to the link which renders the link incorrect. By deleting the %3Cbr%20/%3E
i was able to see your story. Very interesting to know by the way, and will have to watch Paypal payments like that myself.

Hi Cara,

This is upsetting to me as I read what happened with your paypal payment. I think it is time to give the pc nerds(brains) a visit, and they will tell you how you can get some peace of mind. Oceans carry little weight on the internet. Be well!
