My story over at freelanceswitch generated quite alot of comments, with people wanting to know the alternatives to using Paypal. Unfortunately I haven't had experience with other the other payment methods, and my story came about from my experiences with Paypal. Thanks to Skellie for running a follow-up story on the alternatives.

If there is anyone out there around Brisbane who sells gumboots, my advice to you is to simply get a web site and you'll probably start ranking in search engines pretty well. Apparently there isn't alot of competition.
I had one blog post which was about my trip to the splendour in the grass music festival where I mentioned about buying gumboots before I went. I mentioned the keyword twice and my site is ranking far too high for it to be useful for anyone.

Freelancers Beware of Receiving Payments via Credit Card through PayPal
Posted: Friday, February 22, 2008 | Permalink | 3 comments
I recently had an experience with a client which I think should serve as a warning for other freelancers. This one caught me by surprise, I had no idea that this could happen to me, and if I did, I would have protected myself better.
I decided to contribute my story to freelance switch as I'm sure that there other freelancers out there accepting payments through Paypal unaware that they are not covered and what will actually happen if a client disputes a transaction.
» You can read my story here at freelance switch.
Update: The story has also been kindly translated into portuguese, thanks to fique-rico.com.

It's very rare that I publicise the fact that I'm available for web work - it would just seem to find me, through friends or people I meet. Working full-time and studying part-time for the past few years didn't really allow me to be involved in extra projects and I had to pick and choose what I wanted to work on and slot them in around my other commitments.
However, now that I've finished Uni (I graduate with an Associate Degree in Multimedia in September), I find myself tapping my fingers on my desk some evenings wondering what I could be doing.
If you have the need for a Graphics/HTML/CSS designer for a specific upcoming project, I'd like to hear from you. Drop me an email: misscara (at) gmail (dot) com
UPDATE (20 Sept 2006): I'm now unavailable for the next couple of months with some exciting new projects - check back for updates! :)
